5 Ways to Help Breakouts

Striking the perfect balance in life is crucial for inner and outer wellbeing. From balanced lifestyles to diet and skin – getting it right brings lasting harmony.

Our skin reflects any inner turmoil, shows environmental aggressors and reveals less than perfect eating habits – with breakouts and blemishes, a dull complexion, clogged pores and inflammation.

Fortunately, the veritable treasure trove of plant extracts found at ESPA work to clarify, brighten, hydrate, soothe and nourish, while our experts suggest further ways to restore a natural equilibrium for skin happiness.

Reset your Skin

Our spa experts have decades of experience treating all skin types and one key thing they’ve learned about oily skin is that a specialist facial oil will, literally, work wonders.

It may sound counter-intuitive to use oil on oily skin, but it works – when facial oil is absorbed, our natural oil glands don’t need to produce more oil, which in turn helps restore a natural balance. Our Balancing Face Treatment Oil contains specially balancing hydrators like Rose, Sweet Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Irish Moss and Chamomile.

Less Polish

Exfoliating too much and using masks too frequently can over-work the skin, stimulating excess production of oil and compounding the problem.

If you have oily skin we recommend you only exfoliate and use a mask once every 10 days. Our Essential Cleansing Mask uses Kaolin Clay and Rose Geranium to help clear excess oils and impurities, while soothing Rose Damascena and Marshmallow soften and calm the skin.

The Fine Art of Hydration

Water and oil levels in skin are completely different. Oily skin might have excess oil but is often dehydrated – in need of crucial soothing moisture.

A tell-tale sign of dehydrated skin is a dull and lifeless tone. Balancing the oils in your skin and increasing moisture levels will reveal a clearer more radiant complexion.

To avoid clogging pores, use a moisturiser with a lightweight, fine texture, somewhere between a cream and a gel – such as our 24 Hour Balancing Moisturiser.

Team Good Fat and Happy Guts

It’s now widely recognised that good fats, as found in avocados, olives, whole nuts, seeds and oily fish are essential to help feed your skin, immune system and brain. So make them part of your daily life, they will benefit your skin whatever type you have.

Live foods such as organic natural yogurt, kefir, kombucha, raw sauerkraut and kimchi promote good gut function, which will benefit every system in your body boosting detoxification, absorption of nutrients and immune function.

Our Balancing range including the Balancing Herbal SpafreshBalancing Foam CleanserBalancing Face Treatment Oil and Purifying Tea Tree Gel are formulated with some of nature’s purest essential oils including Sweet Mandarin, Rose, Lemon, Lavender and Neroli as well as hydrating plant extracts such as Macadamia, Coconut, Sweet Almond and Irish Moss. Together they restore and maintain vital harmony in oily or combination skin.
